-Acknowledgement of the working principles of mechanical angular measurement devices and systems and ability to use them in laboratory environment.
-Knowledge of the working principles of optical angular measurement devices and ability to use them. Ability of making the necessary measurements in order to determine shape and position tolerances and calculating total (cumulative) shape and position errors by means of statistical methods.
-Acknowledgement of thickness and limit gauges, gauge tolerances, and ability of combining gauges of suitable sizes in order to obtain gauge blocks of desired sizes. Knowledge of wavelengths of light and ability to define interference phenomenon, limits and fit systems and the production principles of limit gauges.
-Ability to inspect and measure the surface roughness of finished surfaces. Awareness of the fact that proper calibration of machine tools is crucial for production quality, the fact that certain screws need to be checked and measured using screw gauges in order to allow for precision feed.
-Knowledge of the fact that gear sizes have to be measured to provide motion and force transmission with minimum friction and noise.
