    Learning Outcomes
    1-Distinguishing between the concepts of city and urban to understand today?s cities, urban society, urban life and the relationships among cities
    2-The ability to draw associations among Urbanization, Industrialization, Resource use and environmental problems
    3-The ability to understand and come up with solutions for environmental problems at the local and global levels using information from Environment Theories, Environmental Policies, Environmental Law and Environmental Ethics
    4-The ability to collect and analyze empirical data and write a research report on urban processes in current cities and the environmental problems faced by using City and Environment Theories to be able to make assumptions regarding the cities of the future
    5-The ability to draw associations among Urbanization, Industrialization, Resource use and environmental problems
    6-Ability to collect data and write research reports on environmental issues, local and global environmentalist movements, and social events and facts
    7-Developing the habit of following relevant publications on Urban Sociology and Urban Policies as well as Environmental Sociology and Environmental Policies

    Goals The aim of this course is to lay the groundwork for discussion of the historical development of cities, which first appeared in 8000 BC in the light of major theories in the field of Urbanization and Urban Sociology and cities today. By the end of this course, students will be knowledgeable about basic information related to the history of urbanization to understand the birth of cities since antiquity until today, their development, change and transformation in addition to discussing the concepts of city and urban to gain an understanding of today?s cities, urban society, urban life and the relationship between cities. In addition to social, economic and political changes and transformations, controversies such as ?the end of the world? and ?ecological doomsday?, this course focuses on the problem of the environment in the field of political science. Within the scope of this course, basic concepts such as the environment, environmentalism, the issue of the environment, environmental policies, environmental movements, and environmental ethics will be discussed as they relate to current ecology issues under social sciences. The goal of this course, in light of these concepts, is to create awareness, based on current environment literature and current universal and local examples, that environmental policies can only be taken up in discussion within new environmental ethics. The course will cover information regarding the prevention of environmental pollution (air, water, soil) in the fields of population, production, industrialization, sustainable use of natural resources and ensuring the applicability of renewable energy resources in order to make assumptions related to the future of the world.
    Content The first cities in history and the development of cities , The Industrial Revolution, Capitalism and Cities, Classical urban theories in the urban sociology literatüre, The origins of the concepts "Environment", "Environmentalism", "Ecology", Malthusianism, Sustainability and Global Warming, City Culture, Public Space, Environmental Ethics, Bio-Ethics, Environmental Policies and Turkey.
