    5-Discuss how Muslim intellectuals interpret democracy, women rights and freedom of thought.

    Goals This course aims to analyze some of the important thinkers of the late 19th and 20th centuries who are pioneers or ideological leaders of politic, cultural, religious and intellectual movements in Islamic geography. The class will also attempt to answer a basic question: how has Islam responded to the challenges posed by "Westernization", "modernization" and "secularization"?
