    3-Explains roles in the ecosystem, economic importance and areas of use of lichens.
    4-Makes general classification according to the of the different properties of lichens.
    5-Recognizes some Turkish lichen samples at least the level of genus.

    Content Introduction to lichenology; lichen definition; history and development of lichenology. Classification of lichens. Symbiosis and lichens; anatomical and morphological features of lichens; cortex; medulla, gonidia. Reproduction in lichens; sexual reproduction; reproductive organ types; vegetative reproduction; isidier; soreds; blastids. Examples of foliose, fruticose and crustose lichens. Physiological features of lichens. Lichen biochemistry, ecological features and economic importance of lichens, living environments, biogeographical features. The importance of lichens in succession. Collection and identification of lichens from the field. Use of lichens as air pollution indicators. Classification of lichens; Lichenology studies in Turkey, Turkey lichens.
